This section presents two contexts that influenced the Chicago Math & Science Initiative’s (CMSI) in-school instructional supports strategy. First, the section reviews the models, as described in the research literature, for successful in-school instructional support. As defined in the literature, the purpose of this in-school support is to extend teachers' professional development experience over time. Next, the section describes how the CMSI identified and addressed several district-level factors that affected the design of its in-school support strategy.
